Exploring unused channels of human communication. 

 

A new way for people to understand information that is sent to their hands through vibrotactile signals.

 

 

Technical Details

 

Piezo electric transducers mounted in four different locations used to send sensations (waveforms) to the hand.

 

Series of industry standard haptic controllers modified to run custom waveforms.

 

Haptic sensation designed based upon sequential, easily to differentiate and short waveforms.

 

Waveform design space explored using amplitude, frequency and temporal aspect. 

 

Introduction of position and sequencing transducers allows the creation of animations across the hand.

 

Extensive user testing used throughout development - proven rapid learning process.

 

Applications in the medical industry and for people with sight problems are currently being explored with partners.
